Watchtower - Control and Resistance (1989/Noise)
Rating - 6.5

Spearheaded by guitarist Ron Jarzombek, Watchtower played a brand of technical/progressive thrash that was relatively new to the scene. There are tons of solos, lead runs, and even bass doodlings, and this release would go on to influence a number of similarly-styled bands in the '90s (think Spiral Architect, among others). Because of that impact it is definitely worthy of recognition, but overall the music and compositions are a bit too disjointed, and the high pitched vocals of Alan Tecchio are erratic at times.
Good parts are spaced throughout "Mayday in Kiev," "Hidden Instincts," "Dangerous Toy," and the title track, with "The Eldritch" having some pulsing moments as well.
