Whitesnake--Whitesnake (1987/Geffen)
Rating--8.3
The heaviest 'Snake ever got, and some of the wickedest chops to grace the metal scene during the '80s "riff explosion". A
lot of that can be credited to the guitar playing of John Sykes, who really comes into his
own and makes a name for himself on this disc (he would later go on to Blue Murder).
Songs such as "Crying In the Rain," "Bad Boys," "Give Me All Your Love,"
and "Children of the Night" just plain rock. "Here I Go Again" is a good change of pace, and its catchy chorus and lighter
frame made it a huge MTV and radio hit back in '87/'88.
The top track, however, is without a doubt "Still Of the Night."
A punishing and rolling riff, and the rest of the track fits perfectly around it. Made to be played loud.
This would, however, pretty
much be the end of Whitesnake's bite...
