Whitesnake--Slide it In (1984/Geffen)
Rating--7.0

Crunchy blues-metal, as David Coverdale and company take the first of two steps towards the updated distortion sound that would classify the heavy sound of the mid-to-late eighties. It's not quite achieved here, as tinges of their old catalogue still exist, but the precedence is set. It's a shame it only lasted for a couple of albums, though...
The excellent and heavy title song opens the disc, and is followed by the great buildup of "Slow An' Easy," with its mesmerizing slide guitar work.
"All or Nothing" has a good drive, and is matched by the pulse of "Gambler." "Hungry For Love" is solid as well, and often overlooked.
