Wolf - Black Wings (2002/No Fashion)
Rating - 8.2

A few kinks have been worked out in the vocal department, as the delivery is smoother this go-round. The music starts to reveal more character as well, as it breaks from the semi-"uncreative" mold the first album found itself in at times. Like the band Dream Evil, Wolf shares some power metal tendencies with bands like Maiden and others, but are also forging a sound and flair of its own.
Opener "Night Stalker" is swift and energetic, while "Venom" has a classic '70s Priest feel. Both "A World Bewitched" and "The Curse" are solid cuts, with "I Am the Devil" and "Genocide" also being good. The Mercyful Fate cover "A Dangerous Meeting" is tacked on at album's end, and is given its just due.
The following album will see the band truly erupt and pillage.
