Winger--In the Heart of the Young (1990)
Rating--6.0
Easy Come Easy Go--RealAudio
The band had some slick little riffs on its debut, and absolutely crunch on 'Pull,' but on this release there are just too many
keyboards, as the dollar signs are irresistable for the boys. The result is that otherwise sharp distortion is masked and not allowed
to breathe, and possible rockers are turned too popsy.
"Can't Get Enuff" and the title track both have attitude, and the
flowing chorus of "Easy Come Easy Go" shows the songwriting strength of Kip and Reb. Other decent-to-good cuts include
"Loosen Up," "In the Day We'll Never See," "Little Dirty Blonde," and "You Are the Saint." However, the overall production/layout
sound is just too much for the band to completely overcome. Grab the next one, kiddies. It's worth it...
