WASP - The Neon God Pt. 1 - The Rise (2004/Sanctuary)
Rating - 7.7

WASP returns with yet another concept offering, this time with the story based on a young orphaned boy who discovers he has the ability to manipulate the minds of others. Complex and intricate; a bit moreso than some of Blackie's other tales, perhaps. Concept story aside, the music and delivery of this disc are somewhat disappointing. Numerous songs have that same strong WASP energy, but a lot of the tracks simply don't stand out or distinguish themselves from one another.
The thunderous "Asylum #9" is the album's top mark, with other choice selections being "Sister Sadie," "Red Room of the Rising Sun," "X.T.C. Riders," and "The Running Man."
WASP aficionado's (since 'The Headless Children' or so) will still find elements here to their liking. However, don't expect an offering up to those same mid-90s levels.
