W.A.S.P.--Unholy Terror (2001/Metal-Is)
Rating--8.2
Charisma--RealAudio
And so the W.A.S.P. machine churns on. This is a more serious release than the previous 'Helldorado,' and actually hearkens back to the mid-80's days
of 'The Crimson Idol' and 'The Headless Children,' in terms of both sound and songwriting.
The
lyric writing is strong (again alluding to the previously-mentioned releases), and the booklet contains the usually worthy insight from Blackie. Lawless still sounds great,
and metal super-guest Roy Z provides lead guitar on two tracks.
"Let it Roar" is a wide-open starter, and numerous other good cuts follow: "Loco-motive Man," "Raven Heart,"
and "Wasted White Boys".
"Charisma" is a pulsing, bobbing trip, and "Euphoria" is an instrumental with an acoustic, calm, and aura-inducing mainframe.
A
well-rounded release which should please all W.A.S.P. fans of old.
