W.A.S.P.--Still Not Black Enough (1995/Raw)
Rating--8.4
Goodbye America--RealAudio
Somewhat musically similar to 'The Crimson Idol,' this has become an overlooked part of the W.A.S.P. catalog--perhaps in part to the small-label distribution and press.
This was at the band's height in terms of cult-hero status, as its fans were (and still are) among the most loyal in all of metal. Blackie truly connects with the masses, and his
liner notes always give insight to that.
Good, solid tracks abound, including "Black Forever," "I Can't," "No Way Out of Here," and the title cut.
"Scared to
Death" is pure atmosphere with its intermixed female vocals, and a drum-rhythm chorus fuels "Goodbye America".
"Rock and Roll to Death" is a carefree, party piece,
and two slower songs in the mold of 'TCI's' "Hold On to My Heart" show up-- "Keep Holding On" and "Breathe".
