W.A.S.P.--Best of the Best 1984-2000 (2000/Snapper)
Rating--7.5
Unreal--RealAudio
I'm trying to figure out just what exactly is going on with W.A.S.P.'s catalog. Has Blackie sold the rights off to five different labels, or something of the sort? This is the
band's second 'greatest hits' collection, to go along with two live offerings. All this from a band with only eight studio albums; I don't have to tell you that's too many. Sure,
it's a good collection... but how many are needed? How about an assortment of 'non-singles'--a disc along those lines would actually be a breath of fresh air, and could
allow listeners to hear some of the band's hidden gems. But enough is enough-- "I Wanna Be Somebody" and "Wild Child" must appear on about nine different CDs...
"Show No Mercy" is from the early-80's 'Animal' EP, and is a nice inclusion. "Unreal" is another semi-rarity, and a recent release. The opening track is a cover of
"Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting". Yawn.
How about this--there's yet another hits collection out now, I've found out-- on a (you guessed it), different label.
