Merry Axemas Volume 2 -- More Guitars For Christmas (1998/Sony)
Rating--7.4
O Come, O Come Emmanuel--RealAudio
Volume two of the series, and while a bit more creative, overall it's not quite as "complete" as the first disc. However, that's a bit of a misleading statement--as neither
are particularly outstanding selections in the genre, unfortunately. For the best Christmas guitar work check out Gary Hoey.
Neal Schon's enchanting sound and style
comes through clearly on "O Come, O Come Emmanuel". The light to electro-heavy shift in "Do You Hear What I Hear" comes compliments of Steve Stevens, and
Trevor Rabin provides a multi-styled and dimensional "O Come All Ye Faithful".
Zakk Wylde's slow finger-pickin' is featured in "White Christmas," while both "Deck
the Halls" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" are heavier?with the latter featuring some cutting John Sykes axework.
