Jump in the Pit--A Tribute to Testament (2000/Dwell)
Rating--7.5
Trial By Fire--RealAudio
Dwell records has put out a number of interesting tribute compilations, mainly comprised of indie and small-label bands. In this Testament collage there are good,
tight renditions throughout. Vocally, however, this assignment is quite a challenge--because few singers have the ability to match Chuck Billy's melodic/power singing
style, unfortunately. The best Testament "tribute" album remains their own, by the way--'First Strike Still Deadly'...
There are a number of good contributions, including
"Dog Faced Gods," "Perilous Nation," "Sins of Omission," and "Practice What you Preach".
"Face in the Sky" has some shouty vocals, but the music is rolling. The
solid "Trial By Fire" is very Chuck Billy-ish in nature, making it a high point.
