Voodoo Hill - Voodoo Hill (2000/Frontiers)
Rating - 8.0

Voodoo Hill is the brainchild of Italian guitarist Dario Mollo and vocalist Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple). Hughes provides some good, soulful singing, and musically you have some dark hard rock/metal. Given the Frontiers label, this is surprisingly heavy and etched. There is a bluesy/strutting feel in places, similar to Jorn Lande's solo works as well as older material from Blue Murder.
Opener "Sensitive" has a murky little crank, and the tough "Keep it to Yourself" has some nasty licks. "Just Another Monday" is a churning treat, with other good tracks being "24," "Black Leather," and "Voodoo Hill".
A semi-bonus is "The Gypsy," which is actually a Deep Purple cover. Fans of Hughes and/or the above-mentioned bands should enjoy this project.
