Van Halen--II (1979)

Dance the Night Away--RealAudio
Not nearly as energetic, metallic, or inventive as the first release. What happened??
Still some decent moments, as DLR is in fine fashion, but there are truly times when you find yourself wondering if this is the same group that entered the studio a year ago for the debut...
"You're No Good" opens up with a plodding pace and swaggering chorus---but a distinctively different distortion sound that before. "Somebody Get Me a Doctor" picks things up with a strong riff, and "D.O.A." is nasty with excellent strafe work and pull-offs.
Summertime feels are passed along through "Dance the Night Away" and "Beautiful Girls," but.......
Well, let's put it this way: A good album in the historical view of the band, as it captures a great side of the boys. But following the debut, it was simply a dissapointment. Which, by the way, is what you're in for if you're expecting 'Van Halen' part two...
