Von Groove--Chameleon (1998/MTM)
Rating--8.2
Disbeliever--RealAudio
Mission Man--RealAudio
The hard rockers from Canada heavy up their sound on this release, with tough tunes chock full of rolling riffs and chords.
Hardline, Shark Island, Saigon Kick,
and light Dokken
are some of the musical images brought to mind in places. The strength here is more in the songwriting than the distortion, as the
band maintains an on-the-edge hard rock/light metal mix.
The band shows loads of energy on songs such as "Missing
Man," "The Snake," and "All For Rock n' Roll," and great rhythms mixed with strong foundations move "Calling the World" and
"Two Nights In Tokyo"--the latter having a splendid solo.
The slashing and paced title track is made even better after a thick
chorus, and the pulsing and direct note base of "Propaganda" is undeniable. The band is at its pumped best when executing
the drive and pull-offs of "Disbeliever," as the last part of their name is brought to rollicking life.
Some grindy, good ol' hard rock,
and another great MTM release.
