Twisted Sister--Stay Hungry (1984/Atlantic)
Rating--8.5
A bit cheesy, yes, but still very thumping. Great anthemic rock, and the actual commercial success of a couple of the songs
gave the band a rather unfair "light" image---Unfair, at least at this point in its career...
Vocalist Dee Snider--who would later go on
to front Widowmaker--is strong and vibrant, and makes each song a treat.
The aforementioned
anthems are "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock". Sort of defined the metal generation there for a few months, eh?
The heavy and thick title track is a definite keeper, as is the pulse of oft-overlooked "The Beast" and the flow of "Don't
Let Me Down."
The concept tracks "Burn In Hell" and "Horror-Teria" are excellent, with the latter containing the plodding
"Captain Howdy" and the faster "Street Justice". "Captain Howdy," by the way, is supposed to be the basis for a new movie,
starring Dee himself...
"The Price" is the slow-down track here, and has been used many times as a high school's graduation song--
especially in the mid-to-late eighties years.
The band begins to lose its focus a bit after this album...
HOT CHOPS: The entire semi-spoken intro segment of "Burn in Hell." Oooohh...
