Peter Steele's ultra-deep range vocals are simply excellent, as he is one of the best mood-setting frontmen in the business.
Dark-cloaked tracks for the most part, but the selection becomes a bit abstract at times, and is a little inconsistent during the
middle stages. If the band is ever able to set the cruise control on total goth and just groove, it will truly
be a force to be reckoned with...
A couple of excellent tracks-- the first being "Christian Woman". Plodding and rhythmic,
with highlights throughout. The churning "Black No. 1" follows immediately afterward, completing a heavy handed one-two
punch.
Several other solid tunes break forth a bit later-- the somewhat upbeat "Summer Breeze," plus "We Hate Everyone"
and "Blood & Fire". However, the first two mentioned songs alone make the disc worthwhile. Oh---and cool cover, too...
HOT CHOPS: Several of Steele's finest vocal moments are held within "Christian Woman". The "Corpus Christi... Body of Christ"
chant is timeless, as is the "Jesus Christ looks like me...", backed by that killer guitar riff-groove.
