Glenn Tipton--Baptizm of Fire (1997)
Rating--7.5
Voodoo Brother--RealAudio
Enter the Storm--RealAudio
Solo release from Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton, pre-'Jugulator'. Some nice guitar work featured here, and has Tipton himself handling all the lead vocals. He has an interesting voice, but if you're expecting the range and power of a Halford or Owens, you're going to be dissapointed. Instead, he sounds very much like Kai Hansen on the latest Gamma Ray offerings. The album is not nearly as impressive as his work in Priest, but that's probably to be expected.
Solid tunes include "Enter the Storm", "Kill or be Killed", "The Healer", "Voodoo Brother", and the instrumental title song. Style is probably a mix between some of the more raw Priest stuff, and (gasp) Fight. Oh--also catch the cover of "Paint it Black" by the Stones. Not too bad!
HOT CHOPS--The drum work in "Voodoo Brother" and "Enter the Storm". Both songs feature Shannen Larkin of Ugly Kid Joe, and he's absolutely amazing with the double-bass and timing schemes. Amazing.
