Fragmentation--RealAudio

Similar to the last release, 'Hypothetical,' in that there is a heavy mix of atmosphere with crunch (which also means it's not quite as straight-forward as 'Clone,' the other Mac-sung offering). Threshold falls under the power/prog category, and has always pretty much stayed away from the useless meanderings that plague some groups in the genre. However, there are starting to be times when they mess around more than they churn, which can become a bit frustrating--because the metal world has seen what they are capable of. The top-notch musicianship continues, which remains an expected constant.
The strong rhythm of "Fragmentation" is tasty, and other good cuts include "Phenomenon" and "Choices". A light/heavy mix shows up in both "Echoes of Life" and "Round and Round," while the disc-closing, multi-part title song eventually evolves into some nice riffs and rhythms.
