Therion--Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas (1994)
Rating--7.0

Powerdance--RealAudio
Definite death metal vocals, though the music shifts from occasional gothic turnings to the more evident and traditional metal sounds--the music of classic Priest, Maiden, and Megadeth all come to mind.
The dark and churning "Baal Reginon" kicks the disc off, and the faster and riff-filled "A Black Rose" is close behind.
Massive time changes occur in just about every song, and "Dawn of Perishness" is a standout with its solid chord work and grooving chorus.
Doomsday growlings introduce "The Ritual Dance of the Yezides," and "Powerdance" is pure rythmic distortion. A good buy for death metal fans who can deal with music other than thrash; more traditional fans will probably want to give it a test drive first.
