The Stranger--RealAudio
The band's musical growth continues, as its disc-to-disc improvement trend remains true once again. The band has moved itself near the top of the hard rock/melodic metal genre, as its heavier moments remind of Hardline (now with more distortion bite). There's the usual selection of "lighter" tracks intermixed, most of which being favorable tunes. The heavy tracks are etched with strong axework-- more of that sort would certainly be welcomed!
A concept-type album, as there are spoken interludes inserted in various choice parts of the disc.
A flowing chorus and overall heavy chug makes "The Stranger" a highlight, and a note-roll intro riff to "Barricade" gives way to some driving inner-song verse work. Other thick tracks include "Timeless," "Black Hearted Woman," and "Thunder in Heaven".
Though slower, "Valentine" has a meaty base, and "Silent Rain" is a ballad-type that makes a mark.
