A Tribute to Accept--Volume I (1999/Nuclear Blast)
Rating--8.2
Balls to the Wall--RealAudio
A nice gesture towards one of the more unsung players in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) of the early '80s. Never quite achieving the success as fellow Europeans
Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, Accept still inflenced a number of bands-- many
of them still current and evolving today. The band's chunky-chord, German metal style continues to surface in the works of bands like Sinner, Rage,
Grave Digger, Breaker, and others...
Sinner's rendition of the classic "Balls to the Wall" is just that-- classic. Probably
the best song on the offering, with thick chords, and an ultra-tight chorus rhythm. The smooth and striking "Flash Rockin Man," by Axxis,
is another top highlight.
A number of tracks come across as strong fare: "Head Over Heels," "Breaker," "Seven Witches,"
"Generation Clash," "Burning," and "China Lady."
Atrocity's "Shake Your Heads" has a heavy, almost techno-metal feel,
while Therion's "The King" is a nice change of pace from the usual thick sound. "Restless and Wild" is pure NWOBHM, while
the strong and wild "Run If You Can" is found near the end of the disc.
