Cage Interview

December 6, 2003

1. State your name, instrument, and band, for the record.
Sean Peck, vocalist, the one true trademark owning CAGE!

2. Do you write music with a specific listening audience in mind, or do you just write whatever feels good at the time you're working on a project?
I have always gone for the self gratification but sometimes considering what the true heavy metal fans want to hear. They often go hand in hand as I am a total heavy metal fan myself.

3. What were the last three CDs (other than your own) that you listened to?
Agent Steel-Order of the Illuminati, Brainstorm-Soul Temptation and King Diamond- The Puppet Master.

4. Do you listen to your own band's CDs on a regular basis?
Like most bands you rock to them when they are first done and then kind of move on but DARKER THAN BLACK is so ripping I still play it a lot. Most of the fans say that they have still not taken it out of the cd player. That is a good sign.

5. What do you see (happening right now) as good things for the future of heavy metal music?
Well in the US it seems to be getting more hip with the kids and shows like URANIUM classics just shows people how ripping metal is and was. There will be no 90s classics show because all of that music sucks. I think it was a great time for us to release DARKER THAN BLACK here in the states as the scene is finaly thriving again. Wait till Priest tours with Halford it will be on!

6. Was there a defining moment that steered you towards metal? A particular band, album, movie, concert, etc.. that was a major influence on your career (and music listening) choice?
Yes, it was when I heard You Cant Kill Rock and Roll by Ozzy off of the Diary of a Madman cd that really grabbed me. I listened to it over and over and then branched out into the Scorpions, Priest and Maiden. My singing began by trying to emulate the Priest albums as a high school kid and the whole rock singer thing was a very appealing concept of course. Now I am living the dream and it is very rewarding to have come this far and be compared as a singer to some of the all time greats.

7. It's dinner time at the Cage compound! You can invite any three guests (music-related), either past or present. Who will get to sit at your round table?
Ozzy, Blackie Lawless, and Yngwie. That should make for some interesting conversation!

8. While flying across to Japan for a show at Budokan, your plane goes down. You and Tom Hanks swim towards an island... but unfortunately Tom turns into shark bait. Anyyyway, once on the island, a FedEx box washes up with a disc player, a crapload of batteries, and... three CDs. What three CDs would you like to have with you, while stranded on your one-man island for a verrry long time?
Crimson Glory-Transcendence, Judas Priest-Screaming for Vengence, and King Diamond-Them.

9. What (if any) current metal bands would you pay to go see in concert?
Judas Priest , Iron Maiden, King Diamond, and Duran Duran (just for the chicks).

10. Dream gig time: Cage is playing a festival with three other bands. Who joins you on the bill?
Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy.

11. There are a few instances of Black Metal vocals on the 'Darker Than Black' CD. Is the band planning on moving more in that direction in the future, or will it be more of a balance like it is now?
Our 4th cd that we are currently working on will be very diversified and will show even more metal angles. One new one is going to sound very Rammstein-ish as I will probably sing most of it in German, some are tuned down and a little heavy/thrashy, but we are not going in a black metal direction on purpose. I will probably use that voice again since it caused quite a stir, but you will be hearing other new voices including my best King Diamond impersonation.

12. What does the immediate future hold for Cage? Tour plans, future albums/projects, etc?
CAGE is already confirmed to play at some of the biggest of the European metal festivals (PIORNO ROCK-Spain, SWEDEN ROCK-Sweden, BANG YOUR HEAD-Germany) and in talks to add a least 6 more during 2004, in addition to about 6 festivals in the USA. Things should be big for CAGE next summer. Also we are touring Mexico in February 2004 as special guests of KAMELOT. Our next cd should see the light of day in 2004.
