Soilwork - Steelbath Suicide (1998/Century Media)

Steelbath Suicide--RealAudio

Melodic Death Metal from Sweden, and some of the best to be had. Reminds of ripping In Flames, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, and the like; there are semi-shouty/growly vocals and riff-rhythms galore. This is a solid and consistent debut throughout, with no letdowns.
Opening track "Entering the Angel Diabolique" is a good mood-setting instrumental, and the heavy rolling of "My Need" punishes soon thereafter. The parade of solid offerings is extensive, as all of "Skin After Skin," "Wings of Domain," "In a Close Encounter," "Demon in the Veins," and the title song leave their marks.
The aptly named "Roazor Lives" slices and dices, and check out that mid-track high-hat strut in "The Aardvark Trail!" Yet another good instrumental is displayed in "Centro de Predominio," again giving a slight nod to early In Flames.
