Stone Temple Pilots--Purple (1994/Atlantic)
Rating--6.1
Interstate Love Song--RealAudio
The band's followup to the unexpected success of 'Core,' and not as heavy/raw/energetic as that debut, unfortunately. Despite a couple of smooth-flowing and radio-friendly
tracks, this is not a very solid release overall.
Opening track "Meat Plan" is chunky and murky like some of the previous album's material, and "'Unglued'" is a bit
more energetic than its comtemporaries.
"Interstate Love Song" is smooth with a good chorus, and "Big Empty" is another laid-back radio cut. "Pretty Penny" also
got some airtime, and has a nice light feel. While those tracks are good in their own way, there are no "Sex Type Things" to be found, sorry to say.
