Savatage--The Dungeans are Calling (1984)

Midas Knight--RealAudio
A very quick follow-up, as this six-song EP (eight on the re-release) has the band expanding its sound, while the production side in particular shows much improvement. Not quite as screechy or high-pitched in places, as the metal evens out a bit. Despite being shorter, probably better overall than the debut.
From the slow start of the title song to the crunching, technical Oliva riff, the beginning treats you right. Strong, soaring vox by brother Jon as well...
The power plod of "By the Grace of the Witch" is a slow groove, but still sharp. "City Beneath the Surface" is a faster track, and carries a mean riff throughout. "Midas Knight" is the album's top highlight, as Cris establishes a stellar chug-chug-chug power riff---classic 'Tage.
HOT CHOPS: The aforementioned "Midas" features more trademark "screams" by Jon Oliva---excellent and well-placed work.
TRACK LIST: The Dungeans are Calling/By The Grace of the Witch/Visions/Midas Knight/City Beneath the Surface/The Whip/ Fighting For Your Love (bonus)/Sirens (bonus)
