Supershine is a project featuring bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick of King's X, and guitarist Bruce Franklin of....
Trouble. Uh oh. Yup... you heard me right.
Musically, this disc is simply the next Trouble installment, as there are plenty of thick, deep crunchers. Grooves
abound, and there are also moments of the Doom-masters' flowing, psychadelic-tinged work of the early '90s.
The strafe-chops mixed throughout the opening
track "Take Me Away" leaves no doubt as to who's playing guitar, and is followed by the absolutely bludgeoning mainframe of "Kingdom Come".
The pull-off
stalk of "Automatic" is pure nasty, and a creeping base line gives way to slow riffing in "Going Down". A slow-pulsing chorus marks "I Can't Help You," and more
classic staples are featured in "Candy Andy Jane," "Won't Drag Me Down," and "Love".
The cover "Shinin' On" is a refreshing track, with its smooth, ultra-flowing feel.
Franklin states that he and his former Trouble bandmates make it a point to get together and jam once a year-- and have been doing so since the band's early '90s
breakup. Can you say, "reunion"? I can...
