Sun Red Sun--Sun Red Sun (1995/SRS)
Rating--7.8
Hard Life--RealAudio
An All-Star lineup project, with Ray Gillen, John West, Bobby Rondinelli, Al Romano, and Mike Starr. The vocals are split amongst Gillen, West, and Romano, and a
couple of the tracks were co-penned by Joey Belladonna?back when Romano was a member of his solo unit.
The ripping opener "Hard Life" sets the pace quickly,
and "Lock Me Up" continues the chop-fest. A heavy frame mixes well with the melodious chorus of "I Know a Place," while "Responsible" is another good track.
Some strafing axe work highlights "Deadly Nightshade," and "Intoxication" has a little end-song groove added on. The true highlight here may be held within the
disc-closing interview. It gives some insight into the band, but more importantly is a couple of hidden treasures at the close: original versions of "Hard Life" and "Big
Misunderstanding," with Joey Belladonna singing. Nice stuff.
