Shotgun Messiah--Shotgun Messiah (1989)
Rating--7.2

Bop City--RealAudio
The definitive hair/glam image! These guys come close to visually giving Slave Raider a run for their money. However, they sound much better than they look. Lots of chops and riffs, and plenty of fun. Hair/Cali groups such as L.A. Guns, Poison, and Autograph come to mind--though Shotgun bears a heavier edge in most places. Some of the hot licks even evoke visions of the axeslinging Racer X, so there's talent to go along with the flash. In all, a bit too late to cash in on the glam scene, as the pool was well into the last stages of drying up in '89...
A killer riff-run kicks off "Bop City," and solid and energetic fare fills "Don't Care 'Bout Nothin'," "I'm Your Love," and "Nervous."
"Shout it Out" is pure groove, with a fun and romping chorus. "Squeezin' Teazin'" brings more party pomp and attitude. This is another great disc to throw in the five-disc changer for those Saturday night keggers... (See the Poison reviews for a "how-to" guide in that area.)
