Stuck Mojo--Rising (1998/Century Media)
Rating--8.5
Dry--RealAudio
Rising--RealAudio
This one smokes, kiddies. There's more solidity than on the previous offerings, and while not only being overall heavier, there's
also more substance and "meat" to the tracks. Just good ol' plain in-your-face romping. The killer riffs that would only show up
on parts of the previous albums are now standard fare, and there's more singing intermixed with what was once only a heavy-rap approach.
The choppy vocals are not abandoned; rather, they don't overshadow the muscianship as might have been the case before. Get
your ass in the pit, or get out of the freakin' club!!
The nasty and deliberate chorus of "Trick" is a pleasure, and a number of songs are pure power and groove: "Southern Pride,"
"Dry," "Hang 'Em High," and the flow of the title cut.
A bulldozer churn moves "Back in the Saddle," and the rapid pace
of "Pipebomb" was made for the moshers...
In all, this one is a testament to a working-man's approach to metal. Wait a sec-- Make
that a diversity of metal, as Mojo, along with churners like Sevendust and
Mr. Blackwell (w/o the rap-like vox), are creating a powerful new genre. The ride is worth the price of the ticket...
