Saigon Kick (1991)

I.C.U.--RealAudio
This album shows some of the musical talent the group holds, but the songs don't seem to gel the way they do on later releases. Guitarist Jason Bieler is vastly underrated, and the band's ability to incorporate vocal harmonies is to be commended. The songwriting style is fairly carefree, and the group gets more tongue-in-cheek later down the road. Musically, the sound has a distinctive metal edge to it, a lot like Dokken, mid-80's Crue, Ratt, and maybe some of the Jake E. Lee Ozzy stuff.
I guess that's an overview of the band itself. However, once again, not all of their talents come through on this debut disc. It has does have several strong songs, though, and gets stronger as it goes on. Hightlights include "Suzy", "Coming Home", "Down By the Ocean", "Acid Rain", "My Life", "Month of Sundays", "Come Take Me Now", and "I.C.U." Wow--it contains more good songs than I had remembered!
HOT CHOPS--The vocal harmonies, as well as the guitar work; however, the rhythm "chug" riff to "I.C.U." sounds like classic George Lynch work...which means it rocks, bucky...
