Saigon Kick--Devil in the Details (1995)
Rating--8.9
Killing Ground--RealAudio
Edgar--RealAudio
Another great offering from this vastly underrated group. At this point the band's music is not as much straight-forward rock as during the 'Lizard' era. The rockers are still there, but the music has taken on a much wider scope and range. The distorted parts of the songs are carefully chosen and placed, but this staccato effect actually works to make the songs stronger . Similiar to 'Water' in that there are tongue-in-cheek songs, thoughtful ballads, and experimentation with musical instruments. However, I feel it can still be considered metal without much problem.
Highlights include "Russian Girl", "Killing Ground", "Eden", "Spanish Rain", "Flesh and Blood", "So Painfully", and "Edgar".
HOT CHOPS--The Spanish feel of the aptly title "Spanish Rain", a ballad-ish, make-out type song. Also, the cool guitar crunch in the chorus of "Edgar". It really jumps on you and kicks you in the face. Great stuff!
