Joe Satriani--The Extremist (1992/Relativity)
Rating--6.1
Summer Song--RealAudio
A very smooth release throughout, as there is nothing too terribly abstract or experimental about it. At the same time, there
is nothing particularly ripping, either. The majority of the songs showcase
solid rhythms rather than intense lead work. A return to the all-instrumental format.
The refreshing and groovy "Summer Song"
is very upbeat, and appeared in a TV commercial ad a few years ago. Was it Pepsi...?
Other good selections include "Why,"
"Motorcycle Driver," "New Blues," and the title track.
