Joe Stump - Guitar Dominance! (1994/Leviathan)
Rating - 7.8

Guitarist Joe Stump is/was a teacher at the Berklee School of Music, so this isn't just some useless six-string wankering you're listening to, bub. His style on this debut release is a bit more aggressive than Satriani, and not as showy or flowery as Malmsteen. There is an edged and (maybe overly) raw sound to the production; overall, some good tracks to be had, and a nice stepping-out for Stump.
"In for the Kill," "Paganini's Revenge," "The Ultraviolence," and "Breakneck Boogie" are all good tracks, sprinkled throughout. "Behind the 8 Ball" is a nice little attitude ride, while "Survival of the Fastest" starts out with an "old west" intro theme, before commencing with ample amounts of rippage.
