Sinergy--Suicide By My Side (2002/Nuclear Blast)

Violated--RealAudio
The band's overall improvement continues here, as the Kimberly Goss-led power metal troupe breaks more ground with its unique mixture of elements. The material is saturated with intricate guitar work and fast, rip-rolling mainframes. The great distortion sound and overall feel reminds of Arch Enemy, Lost Horizon, Children of Bodom, and extreme Maiden. Goss is a definite Power Metal vocalist; forget any possible negative implications from her sex.
"The Sin Trade" is an intricate and tight-packed offering, and "Violated" is heavy and biting. A number of cuts are fast-paced and caustic: the soaring "I Spit on Your Grave," both "Me, Myself, My Enemy" and "Nowhere For No One," and the strong "Passage to the Fourth World," as that series continues.
A light/heavy mix shows up in "Written in Stone," and the title track is heavy-handed and slashing. "Shadow Island" features some guest black metal vocals for the evil in the audience.
In all, this stands a notch above the group's previous two releases, which is exactly what you want from a band at this stage in its career. A nice start to the new year.
