Sinner--Judgement Day (1996/Saraya)
Rating--8.9
Troublemaker--RealAudio
Top-shelf power metal, as Sinner comes out of a brief hiatus with a much-updated sound. Breaking out of its '80s,
NWOBHM-tinged beginnings, this is nasty and note-ripping, along the lines of Primal Fear,
Marshall Law, some Rage, and updated Priest.
Sinner has become one of the specialists of the lip-twisting power groove...
"Troublemaker" is a grooving, neck-moving crawler,
and nastiness drips all over the power cut "Pray For Mercy". Good stop-and-go chord riffing is the forte of "Blue Tattoo,"
while "School of Hard Knocks" is heavy and slide-moving.
A number of fast and swift tracks dot the disc, including "Used to the Truth," "Jump the Gun," and "White Lightning".
"Streets of Sin" is a good showcase of the band's knack for the slow-and-nasty, and be sure to let the track roll for a few seconds
at its completion, as there's a brief little instrumental piece tacked on to CD's end... and even that rips and shreds!
