Shadows Fall - Of One Blood (2000/Century Media)
Rating - 7.9

Shadows Fall effectively mixes various styles into their musical approach, resulting in a good - if not necessarily unique - listening experience. The band falls for the most part under the "melodic death metal" genre. There are mixed vocals-sometimes of the shout/death variety, sometimes clean. The aggressive music reminds of In Flames and 'Demonic'-era Testament, as the chords are blended with notes throughout. Melody-laced parts are definitely noticeable, and are often caused by the vocal shifts of the same nature. Good lead and solo work, and a definite up-and-coming band (which will improve a good deal on the next release).
The chunky and flowing "Crushing Belial" is nice, and the strong and driving thrash piece "Fleshold" is a top highlight.
Other good cuts include "The First Noble Truth," "Root Bound Apollo," and "Serenity".
