Silent Force--Infatuator (2001/Massacre)
Rating--8.6
Gladiator--RealAudio
The second release from the D.C. Cooper and Alex Beyrodt-led supergroup, this offering finds the band in a more wide-open frame of mind than the debut.
Double-bass drumming is everywhere, and the songwriting is written to match the pace. Many of the resulting tracks are less melodic than before, and lean more
towards attacking and adrenalized. Cooper's vocals help to insure that the songs are still very rhythm-oriented, but overall the riffs are a little less etched than on the previous
CD.
The heavy and fast title track opens the disc, and both "Fall Into Oblivion" and "The Blade" are similar. A high-flying, bobbing chorus highlights "Hear Me Calling,"
while a slowed-down pace allows "Last Time" to slide and crunch.
The ripping "Gladiator" is a top highlight, and an added bonus is a cover of Judas Priest's "All Guns
Blazing". It's one of those "make you wonder" tracks, as Cooper was actually one of the finalists for Priest's open vocal slot back in the late '90s. Hmmm... what could have been...
