Saxon-Killing Ground (2001/SPV)
Rating-8.3
You Don't Know What You've Got--RealAudio
Saxon returns with another offering of the chunky, solid rejuvenated metal that has marked its last two studio releases. At times is doesn't seem quite as fresh and experimental
as three years ago, but perhaps that's simply because we've become accustomed to fine releases from the band.
Headstrong, rugged cuts abound: The opening "Killing
Ground," the faster-paced "Dragons Lair," "Coming Home" and its strutting chord-riff, and the sassy back-mover "You Don't Know What You've Got".
Other stalwarts
include "Deeds of Glory," "Running For the Border," and the light/crunching tradeoffs of "Shadows on the Wall". In all, another no-nonsense metal platter for fans of chord
n' riff metal and the NWOBHM.
