Pain--RealAudio

This John Perez-led group continues to excel in doom-and-groove based metal, and this release may be their finest offering (from a host of good albums). The music and vocal work simply ooze with atmosphere and emotion, and there's plenty of deep-seeded distortion to please the everyday metal fan, as well. Though few bands are exact fits, Trouble, Life of Agony, and Candlemass are all brought to mind at times.
The strong opener "Falling" is followed up by "Haunting the Obscure", and "The 9th, Day" is a chugging and grinding treat. The grind-groove distortion of "Pain" sets it apart, with "Pawns of Anger" being another back-mover.
"Perfect Insanity" is a fair track, while "Shattered My Spirit" has some very yearning, atmospheric singing.
