Royal Hunt--The Mission (2001/Century Media) Rating--8.1

This is the band's second full-length release with John West at the vocal helm, and he continues in the same strong and clear vein as before. This disc is a concept album based on Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles". There are short instrumental interludes between many of the tracks, which serve to expand the overall mood and feel of the storyline. The band's usual prog/power chops are featured, and a nice, strong distortion sound is on display. Fans of their recent material will enjoy this release as well.
The strong and driving "World Wide War" is a top spot, and other highlights include "The Mission," "Out of Reach," "Total Recall," and the slower "Judgement Day".
