Royal Hunt--Land of Broken Hearts (1993/Rondel)
Rating--8.3
Land of Broken Hearts--RealAudio
A band that quietly became a force in the power/prog/symphonic metal community. Strong vocals, with good range and
overall voice. There's some basic hard metal here, as well as light overtones of bands like Stratovarius,
Elegy, Kamelot, and the like. A great second-half pickup to this disc...... smoke!
Nasty verses and riffing back a strong vocal chorus on "One By One," with more sharpness showing up in the title track, which
features a melodic and thick choral frame.
Intricate guitar and keyboard phrasings mark "Heart of the City," and all of "Easy
Rider," "Flight," "Stranded," and the bonus track "Day In Day Out" are good. The band also introduces its affinity towards
the instrumental, as "Martial Arts" is a fast and intricate ride.
Several more strong efforts are to come from these guys, so
sit tight...
