Rage--End of All Days (1996)
Rating--8.3
Under Control--RealAudio
Another solid, bruising power metal offering from the German mainstays. A return to the faster-paced 'Trapped!' sound, as the band
picks it up a notch with both the guitar work and the drum beats. A lot of heavies, and while not as strong as the 'Link'-era music, better
and sharper than the previous effort. Still, once again, solid metal none-the-less. Actually after several months, this one is getting a lot better
with continued listens...
Starting things off is "Under Control", which is fast and furious, with big drums. Check out the brutal riff/rhythm after the second
chorus...
"Higher Than the Sky" is very Priest-like in its tightness, and actually reminds a little of
"Jawbreaker", a song Rage covered on the Priest tribute disc. A very singable chorus. "Visions" is heavy, heavy, heavy, especially
the post-chorus mid-riffs.
"Talking to the Dead" has a classic intro riff, which melts into a smooth rhythm, whereas "Desperation"
is steady throughout with its heavy chops.
Even more great no-nonsense axework is shown on "Frozen Fire", and "Face Behind
the Mask" is fast-paced with a tremendous chorus. Once again, the boys have delivered in their true underrated fashion...
