David Lee Roth--Skycraper (1988)
Rating--5.8

This second full release from the DLR band reminds a lot of the middle of the VH/Roth catalog, in that overall it just isn't heavy and distorted enough. This is shown well on the first single "Just Like Paradise," which is OK, but lacks in bottom-end.
The top track is opener "Knucklebones," with a strong beat and dark, murky singing in the chorus. Blended together, it's easily made the disc's heaviest offering. Both "The Bottom Line" and "Stand Up" rock, and "Damn Good" is probably the best nostalgic/acoustic Roth-performed tune ever--and that's saying a lot. Also of note is that it's pretty much the only DLR solo song to still get some AOR playtime, as it seems to be a summertime fave of a lot of DJs. Great acoustic work by Vai as well, which he usually isn't noted for.
TRACK LIST: Knucklebones/Just Like Paradise/The Bottom Line/Skyscraper/Damn Good/Hot Dog and a Shake/Stand Up/Hina/ Perfect Timing/Two Fools a Minute
