Ratt--Out of the Cellar (1984)
Rating--9.0
Wanted Man--RealAudio
Round and Round--RealAudio
An underrated group, plain and simple. Also, often unfairly judged due to the negative connotations of the
mid-'80s "glam" scene. Despite coming out of LA and having the big hair and spandex, Ratt had much more groove
and overall musical talent than many groups (of any genre). Lead guitarist Warren DeMartini, in particular, could shred with
the best. The group's musical direction is very comparable to Dokken, and is somewhat similiar to
the more biting work of Motley Crue as well.
"Round and Round" is the song that put them on the
rock n' roll map, as the band quickly showed its knack for the catchy chorus and riff-laden verse. Rebellion, sex, and sleeze dot
the lyrics of the raspy-voiced Stephen Pearcy, who would later take his riot act to Arcade.
All of the songs are highlights, but "Wanted Man", "In Your Direction", "Lack of Communication", "Back For More", and "I'm
Insane" are personal faves..
HOT CHOPS: The pulse of opening track "Wanted Man"--smooth and strong! Also, album closer "Scene of the Crime" winds and
mesmerizes as one of the group's oft overlooked tracks.
