Poison--Greatest Hits 1986-1996
Rating--8.0
Yeah, yeah...laugh all you want. But this is one disc that can always be thrown on at parties where the participants are 20-something,
and by the end of the night you can be guaranteed of three things: an empty keg, tits being flashed, and someone getting laid. So
go ahead and yuck it up. I've got a party to go to...
Alrighty...let's get to the music. Yes, Poison has caught tons of flack in their career. But if you are going to own one of their
CDs, this is the one to have. All of the "hits" are here, and they do a good job of including the lesser-known (and often
heavier) tracks as well. One tremendously overlooked gem is the full-throttled cut "Look What the Cat Dragged In," with its
nasty ass crunch and grind. A mean as hell tune, no matter who plays it.
I'll not cover the MTV-obvious tracks; instead,
let's mention a few of the other "rarer" ones...
"Sacrifice (Flesh & Blood)" has a really great flowing chorus, and there are
a number of heavy chops in "So Tell Me Why" and "Sexual Thing"--reminiscent of 'Cherry Pie'-era
Warrant.
No, I wouldn't go around wearing a Poison bandana to the mall or anything. But it is nice to have in the back
of the collection for, ohhh, say.... parties with kegs and shirts and beds...
