Primal Fear--Jaws of Death (1999/Nuclear Blast)
Rating--8.7
Church of Blood--RealAudio
A very solid followup to the supergroup's debut, as the band remains at the top of the Euro straight-power scene.
Opener "Final Embrace" is fast, tight, and rolling, and the strutting piledrive of "Church of Blood" is pure churn. There's some
great high-end vocal blending on "Into the Future," reminding of some of the best Halford-prime screeches.
Both "Under
Your Spell" and "When the Night Comes" are slower paced and crunching, whereas "Save a Prayer" and "Nation in Fear"
are to-the-hilt speed. "Play to Kill" is similar, as it incorporates a steady double-bass pace.
Overall not quite as
consistent as the debut, but only falling short by a small measure---and still better than the vast majority of other power metal offerings
coming out today.
All hail Scheepers and Sinner...
