Axel Rudi Pell--Oceans of Time (1998/Steamhammer)
Rating--8.0
Carousel--RealAudio
Pell has taken a page from the Malmsteen book in terms of vocalists, as he tends to go through a singer every couple of albums. The revolving door stops on a fine
one this time--Johnny Gioeli, formerly of Hardline.
The band's good, swift metal continues, and Pell's guitar sound has updated as the
years have gone by.
"Pay the Price" is a fast opener, and more solidity shows up in "Ride the Rainbow" and "Holy Creatures". Cutting and steady tracks include
"Carousel" and "Living on the Wildside," while the slower pace of "The Gates of the Seven Seals" makes its overall thickness even more evident.
An enjoyable
disc, and a great voice from the annals of Hard Rock music.
