Pantera--Official Live - 101 Proof (1997/EastWest)
Rating--8.4
I'm Broken--RealAudio
A brutal live experience. When the band is at its best, few can play that style of metal better. This was during the 'Great Southern Trendkill' tour, so as a result there is
a blend of heavy classics alongside the newer, more frantic tunes.
The distortion sound and thickness is superb, Anselmo is menacing and full to the brim with attitude,
and raw energy abounds. The only drawbacks are several glaring catalog omissions. First off, "Drag the Waters" is left from the touring album's list of songs, and 'Vulgar
Display's' disc-opening masterpiece "Mouth For War" fails to make an appearance as well. ......???
There are two new studio tracks at album's end, however,
with "Where You Come From" being a tasty piledriver.
Listen to the nasty back-breakers "Walk," "5 Minutes Alone," and "I'm Broken". The ravenous "Hostile" closes
the band's show, and earlier strong points include "New Level," the ear-slashing "Becoming," band staple "Cowboys From Hell," and the varying tempo of "War Nerve".
Little airbrushing is done here. Pantera is an excellent live act; believe your ears!
