Harvestor of Pain--RealAudio Toe'N the Line--RealAudio

A blues-rock endeaver that seems to morph the styles of classic Southern bands like the Allman Brothers and Lynryd Skynyrd with the heaviness and crunch of an AC/DC or The Cult. In fact, Ozz-man guitarist Zakk Wylde often pulls off riffs and chords that sound like Osborne-fare--but usually only for fleeting moments. The solos, in particular, smack of Wylde's metal side.
What is perhaps the most interesting facet here is that Zakk makes the second Ozzy axeman to go the ways of the blues--following the path of Jake E. Lee and his otherworldly Badlands project. But for Pride & Glory's sake, we'll not make comparisons between the two... ;-)
The grinding "Losin' Your Mind" starts things off, and as the album progresses you'll notice the skillful integration of banjos, harmonicas, and other non-rock-standard noise makers into the songs. Nice gruff vocals---which are also performed by that guitar dude...
Both "Horse Called War" and "Toe'n the Line" are heavy, with the latter being nasty and rolling, and a true pleasure with a beer in hand.
Listen to that opening harmonic on "Harvester of Pain"! Then how it gives way to a solid churn... Raunchy slide work bolsters "Troubled Wine," and "Shine On" keeps the pace swift as well.
The disc closes out with the riotous "Hate Your Guts," wrapping up a strong genre-shifting effort for a long-haired...err...metal boy...
