Ozzy Osbourne--Bark at the Moon (1983)
Rating--8.2
Bark at the Moon--RealAudio
Randy Rhoads' untimely death hurt the metal world in a big way, robbing us of one of the most talented young guitarists to
ever hit the scene. However, ever moving forward, Ozzy does a comendable job returning---and uncovering yet another gem.
This time it's in the form of Jake E. Lee. While not as flashy (at this point) as Rhoads, Lee brings to the table extremely strong
rhythm skills to match up with more than capable riffs and leads.
This album seems to lighten things up a bit musically, with
the exception of a couple of 'Blizzard'-ish heavy hitters. Still some good tunes, but hardly non-stop like the earlier works. Some
almost atmospheric pieces, which isn't all bad.
Highlights include "Rock n' Roll Rebel," "Centre of Eternity,"
"You're no Different," and the shred-fest that is the title track.
HOT CHOPS: The monks chanting at the beginning of "Centre of Eternity" is great... Really sets a strong mood.
